I'll be honest with you - I didn't set out to become a celebrant. But now, looking back, I believe I have spent much of my life collecting the skills I needed to help guide people through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

I started my career as a newspaper journalist (when typewriters were still a thing and the internet wasn't), before transitioning into copywriting and communications.

Things were going rather well, and then I met a Swedish girl who turned my life upside down. I spent the next 18 years living in the far north of Sweden, had three amazing children, became a beer expert and even opened my own craft brewery!

I'm living proof that life doesn't always go the way you planned. But then isn't that the most amazing thing about it?

Back living in England I started my own translation business (I speak Swedish fluently), but secretly wanted to do something more emotionally rewarding and meaningful.

Fast-forward to last year, and I was asked to read a poem at a celebrant-led funeral service for a family member. I was utterly captivated by the ceremony and the way it joyously celebrated the life of our loved one. 

After the ceremony the celebrant suggested I should become a celebrant myself and, after a few days of reflection, I signed up for the most intensive professional training qualification for funeral celebrancy available in the UK today. 

Now I have the most rewarding and fulfilling job imaginable - creating unforgettable personalised 'Celebration of Life' funeral services.

And at the same time I get to make things just a little easier for the families I work with as they go through an emotionally difficult time.
